These sponges come from Zanzibar, Tanzania, and are unique. Nowhere else in the world is this species (Callyspongiidae - Haploslerida) cultivated. The aquafarming methods used have no negative impact on natural sponge populations. Strict care is taken to avoid damaging natural habitats, especially coral reefs and seagrass meadows. The sponge farms are managed by the farmers, mostly single mothers, after they have completed their training.
